“Younger generations should understand their responsibility to look after the elders”

Chandigarh, October 2, 2023: Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association (CSCA) celebrated the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18 here today.

This day aims to raise awareness about the issues faced by older persons and celebrate their contributions to society. As the world’s population ages, it becomes increasingly important to address the challenges and opportunities that come with an aging population.

Chief Guest SS. Sandhu Chancellor Chandigarh University released the Souvenir of the Association.

The Chief Guest, addressing senior citizens, appreciated the efforts made by Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association (CSCA) in providing much needed services not only to senior citizens but also to other challenged sections of society by way of medical and other facilities, counselling and guidance. He was happy that the Association was providing a platform to elders to share their joys and sorrows and relieving them from worries of loneliness. He appealed to younger generations to accept moral responsibility to look after the elders who had made great contributions to take the country forward.

Dr. Raj Bahadur a noted spinal surgeon in the country with about 50 years of experience, other than the Ex VC of BFHUS was the Guest of Honour.

The occasion hailed the achievements of the seniors from different walks of life. As many as 10 women crossing 85 years and men crossing 90 years were felicitated.

Earlier the President of the Association Satnam Singh Randhawa gave a brief introduction about the activities of the association. He urged the Chief Guest, and other distinguished officers to involve the Association in their projects for the welfare of the senior citizens. He further emphasized on the implement of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007, pension/insurance/Senior Citizen Homes. He appealed to the government to declare the Senior Citizens a National asset,

A cultural programme was also presented, which included Shammi Narang an India Voice over Artist, ex. News anchor & entrepreneur, Dolly Narang an Indian classical Singer, Bhangra Team of Chandigarh University and Artists members of Association.

The function concluded with votes of thanks by the Vice President.
