2 min read

Mohali, February 14, 2025: In a special initiative to promote health and safety awareness among the elderly community, Fortis Mohali organised a Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid training session – ‘Dil Dhadkane Do’ for members of the Mohali Senior Citizens Association on Valentine’s Day. Held at the Fortis Hospital Auditorium, the session witnessed participation from over 60 senior citizens, who received one-on-one guidance from Dr. Arun Sharma, Director of Critical & Palliative Care.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Arun Sharma emphasized the critical importance of timely intervention in medical emergencies. He stated, “Cardiac arrest, drowning, or other emergencies can cause the heart to stop pumping blood. In such situations, the chances of survival increase significantly if immediate, high-quality Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is administered. Since most cardiac arrests occur at home or in public places, community awareness of CPR basics can play a crucial role in saving lives.”

In addition to CPR training, the session also covered first-aid measures for common incidents such as nosebleeds, fractures, and minor injuries.

Dr. Sharma further added, “Our mission is to reach out to people across the Tricity and build widespread awareness about emergency response techniques. Every minute counts in critical situations—every chest compression, every breath, and every action matters. Through these workshops, we aim to empower the community with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle emergencies until professional medical assistance arrives.”

Fortis Hospital Mohali, as a part of its commitment to community welfare, regularly organises medical camps, awareness programs, and educational workshops. Continuing its efforts to enhance public health knowledge, the hospital has been conducting BLS training sessions for various groups, including schools, colleges, clubs, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and others for several years.

Through such initiatives, Fortis Hospital Mohali continues to strengthen its role as a leader in community healthcare and emergency preparedness.
