8 shops directed to shut over use of banned plastic bags
2 min readChandigarh, March 15, 2022: The city beautiful Chandigarh is known in the country as Green & Clean City.In first of its kind move to curb the pollution caused by Single Use Plastic strict action has been initiated against the violators for using banned Single Use Plastic products/items. The Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee (CPCC) under Environmental (Protection) Act, 1986, has issued directions to the concerned authorities to disconnect the electric supply and sealing the following 08 units/shops.

In September, 2019, Chandigarh Administration has issued notification to ban usages, storage, distribution, selling etc. of Single Use Plastic items and imposes environment compensation/plastic challan on the violators of this notification.
Show cause notices were issued to 31 no. of units/shops violating the provision of above said Chandigarh Administration Notification under Environment Protection Act, 1986 for not depositing the environmental compensation/plastic challan. In response, except 08 units rest all units have deposited the challan amount.
Chandigarh Administration is taking strict steps/action against the violators of the above said notification. The action against violators will continue in the best interest of environment protection and maintaining the cleanliness of the city.
