Cordial Centre-State Relations Crucial for Punjab’s Development: MP Dr. Vikramjit Sahney
2 min readChandigarh, July 19, 2024: Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, presented his comprehensive report card marking two years of dedicated service to the people of Punjab. Emphasizing the pivotal role of cooperative federalism and cordial Centre-State relations in fostering Punjab’s progress.
Dr. Sahney stated that the various problems faced by Punjab like burgeoning debt, infrastructure development, industrial projects for job creation, crop diversification etc. can only be achieved with support of the centre. He reiterated that Centre should also consider a special package for Punjab as they are considering for states like Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha as Punjab have also passed through turbulent times of terrorism and need financial restructuring.
Dr. Sahney underscored several milestones achieved during his first two years his comprehensive report encapsulated his parliamentary achievements and proactive measures within Parliament, including successful initiatives such as the repatriation of stranded Punjabis, extensive developmental and relief efforts, advancements in education and skill development, and initiatives to attract investments and preserve Punjabi culture.
Dr. Sahney said that during these two years he addressed critical issues affecting Punjab, ranging from agriculture, inflation, and unemployment to cultural preservation. His advocacy led to significant outcomes including the cancellation of GST on Serais, halting the centralization of Panjab University, securing a ₹10,000 crore grant for the upgradation of the Semi-Conductor Lab in Mohali, and the inclusion of Sikh martial art Gatka in the National Games. Furthermore, his efforts facilitated the introduction of the Vande Bharat Train connecting New Delhi to Amritsar, along with flight routes from Delhi to Ludhiana and Bhatinda. He has also overseen the successful repatriation of more than 100 Punjabis stranded abroad.
Dr. Sahney informed that ITI Ludhiana has been transformed into a centre of excellence for which he had given a grant of 2 crore and around 30 lakhs he spent from his own pocket along with this he has adopted five additional ITIs across Punjab.
Dr. Sahney also stated that he is establishing ten world-class skill centres in the state, expected to create job opportunities for over 10,000 youth. The centres in Patiala, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar are slated to commence operations from September and Multi Skill Development Centre in Amritsar is already functioning successfully imparting training and jobs to over 1000 students per year.
Dr. Sahney called for unity among all MPs of Punjab, urging them to collaborate across party lines for the state’s development. He emphasized the importance of constructive dialogue with the Centre to expedite pending issues and secure projects and funding crucial for Punjab’s developmental initiatives.
